How Puretap Recycles Every Bottle: Our Commitment to the Environment
Sustainability Starts with Every Bottle
At Puretap, we believe that delivering clean water shouldn’t come at the cost of a clean environment. That’s why we’ve built recycling and sustainability into every part of our operation — from the bottles we use to the way we handle end-of-life plastics.
We Recycle All Our Plastics at the City Recycling Depot
Every piece of plastic that comes through our operation gets recycled. Damaged bottles, worn caps, shrink wrap, packaging materials — none of it goes to landfill. We transport all recyclable plastics to the city recycling depot where they’re properly sorted and processed for reuse.
This isn’t just a policy on paper. It’s a hands-on commitment that our team follows every day. When a bottle reaches the end of its usable life, it doesn’t get thrown away — it gets driven to the depot and recycled responsibly.
Reusable Bottles: The Foundation of Our Model
Our 18L (5 gallon) water bottles are designed for repeated use. Each polycarbonate bottle is built to last through dozens of fill cycles. When you finish a bottle, we collect the empty, sanitize it thoroughly, inspect it for any damage, and refill it. This reuse model dramatically reduces the number of single-use plastic bottles that end up in recycling streams or, worse, in waterways and landfills.
Compare this to buying cases of single-use 500mL bottles from the store: a family that drinks the equivalent of one 18L bottle per week would otherwise go through roughly 36 single-use bottles in that same period. Over a year, that’s nearly 1,900 single-use bottles replaced by approximately 52 refills of one reusable bottle.
Canadian-Sourced, Locally Produced
By sourcing our raw materials from Canadian suppliers and producing locally in Mississauga, we keep our supply chain short. Shorter supply chains mean fewer transport emissions, fresher product, and more accountability at every step. We’re not shipping water across oceans — we’re producing it right here in the GTA and delivering it to your door.
What You Can Do
Choosing Puretap is already an environmentally conscious decision, but here are a few more ways you can help:
Return your empties. When we deliver your fresh water, hand back your empty bottles so we can sanitize and reuse them. Every bottle returned is one less bottle manufactured.
Choose larger formats. An 18L bottle produces far less packaging waste per litre than cases of small bottles. If you’re currently buying cases of 4L jugs or smaller bottles, consider switching to our 18L delivery service.
Recycle what you can’t reuse. If you do purchase our 4L Morning Mist cases, the bottles are fully recyclable in your curbside blue bin.
